Thermic Edge have extensive experience in the operation, support and supply of Power Supply Units for use both in Laboratory and Industrial applications. All power supplies have been designed to offer excellent functionality combined with ease of use and provide a complete package for controlled power systems to a variety of applications, not limited to heating systems.

Thermic Edge’s SMP range of Switch Mode DC Power Supplies offer a lightweight, cost effective alternative to AC Power Supplies. DC power supplies, due to their stable current, offer an intuitive, easy to use system for a variety of systems requiring power. The power supplies don’t require a transformer, so are far lighter than AC PSUs while also providing a much smaller footprint in the workplace. The Thermic Edge DC Power Supplies are an excellent solution for powering and controlling any system requiring stable, accurate, and safe power delivery.

All DC PSUs are fully compatible with our range of heater controllers. The controller is housed in a separate 3U unit. The Thermic Edge Heater Temperature Controller has been designed to be a simple to use, robust, user definable and accurate heater temperature controller that, together with the optional communications facility, makes this unit a very powerful package. The controller unit is 3U high, half rack width, and is compliant with relevant EU directives.

The controller unit contains a PID controller (Proportional with Integral and Derivative). This provides an auto-tuning function to dynamically tailor the power supply output to the requirements of the heater to reach the desired temperature in an accurate safe, and efficient manner. Thus, overshooting is avoided during temperature ramping. This function is fully compatible with any power supply using a 0-10V input signal.

What are Thermic Edge DC Lab Power Supplies used for?

Thermic Edge DC Lab Power Supplies are used for controlled DC power delivery in laboratory and industrial applications. They can be used for heating systems and other applications requiring stable, accurate and safe power delivery, including resistance heating, LED testing, motor and DC fan testing, accumulator charging, small electrolysis systems and component burn-in tests.

Which DC power supply ranges are shown on this page?

The page shows four SMP ranges: SMP1U - 1.5kW, SMP2U - 2-4kW, SMP3U - 10-15kW and SMP4U - 15-18kW. Each tab includes the input details and model list for that range.

How do I choose the right SMP power supply model?

Start with the required output voltage, current and rated power for your application. The model lists show the available voltage ranges and current ratings, making it easier to identify the closest match before requesting a quote.

What input supply do the SMP power supplies require?

The SMP1U 1.5kW range uses single-phase 220Vac±10%. The SMP2U range lists three-phase 380Vac±10% for 3KW to 4KW models and single-phase 220V±10% for 2KW models. The SMP3U and SMP4U ranges list three-phase 380Vac±10%.

What voltage ranges are available across the listed models?

The listed SMP models cover voltage ranges from 0-15V up to 0-3000V, depending on the selected power supply range and model.

Are Thermic Edge DC power supplies compatible with heater controllers?

Yes. Thermic Edge DC PSUs are compatible with Thermic Edge heater controllers. The controller unit uses PID control to adjust heater power and help the system reach the required temperature accurately and safely.

Can the power supply be controlled remotely?

The feature list includes remote enable and a 0-10v input for remote control. The power supplies also include local and remote switching on the back of the PSU.

What safety and protection features are included?

The listed features include a 24 V interlock, voltage and current limit control, overheat protection, over-current protection, intelligent fan cooling and low ripple and noise.
