DC Lab Power Supplies

Thermic Edge supply DC power supplies along with heater temperature controllers to customers located around the world. Systems can be tailored to suit any application and customer requirements. Worldwide sales and customer support is handled at Thermic Edge on the South Coast of England.

Thermic Edge have extensive experience in the operation, support and supply of Power Supply Units for use both in Laboratory and Industrial applications. All power supplies have been designed to offer excellent functionality combined with ease of use and provide a complete package for controlled power systems to a variety of applications, not limited to heating systems.

Thermic Edge’s SMP range of Switch Mode DC Power Supplies offer a lightweight, cost effective alternative to AC Power Supplies. DC power supplies, due to their stable current, offer an intuitive, easy to use system for a variety of systems requiring power. The power supplies don’t require a transformer, so are far lighter than AC PSUs while also providing a much smaller footprint in the workplace. The Thermic Edge DC Power Supplies are an excellent solution for powering and controlling any system requiring stable, accurate, and safe power delivery.

All DC PSUs are fully compatible with our range of heater controllers. The controller is housed in a separate 3U unit. The Thermic Edge Heater Temperature Controller has been designed to be a simple to use, robust, user definable and accurate heater temperature controller that, together with the optional communications facility, makes this unit a very powerful package. The controller unit is 3U high, half rack width, and is compliant with relevant EU directives.

The controller unit contains a PID controller (Proportional with Integral and Derivative). This provides an auto-tuning function to dynamically tailor the power supply output to the requirements of the heater to reach the desired temperature in an accurate safe, and efficient manner. Thus, overshooting is avoided during temperature ramping. This function is fully compatible with any power supply using a 0-10V input signal.

For heater temperature controller options, see Thermic Edge heater controllers.

DC Lab Power Supplies FAQs

What are Thermic Edge DC Lab Power Supplies used for?

Thermic Edge DC Lab Power Supplies are used to provide stable, accurate and safe power delivery for a wide range of laboratory and industrial systems. They are not limited to heating systems, but they are especially well suited to applications where stable current and controlled power delivery are important.

Can Thermic Edge power supplies be tailored to specific applications?

Yes. Thermic Edge supply DC power supplies and heater temperature controllers to customers around the world, with systems that can be tailored to suit the application and customer requirements.

What is the advantage of Switch Mode DC Power Supplies?

Thermic Edge’s SMP range of Switch Mode DC Power Supplies offers a lightweight, cost effective alternative to AC power supplies. Because the power supplies do not require a transformer, they are far lighter than AC PSUs and provide a smaller workplace footprint.

Are the DC power supplies compatible with Thermic Edge heater controllers?

Yes. All DC PSUs are fully compatible with the Thermic Edge range of heater controllers. The controller is housed in a separate 3U unit and is designed to provide simple, robust, user definable and accurate heater temperature control.

For more information, see the Thermic Edge heater controller page.

How does the PID controller help with temperature control?

The controller unit contains a PID controller, which uses Proportional, Integral and Derivative control. This provides an auto tuning function that dynamically tailors the power supply output to the heater requirements, helping the heater reach the desired temperature in an accurate, safe and efficient manner.

This helps avoid overshooting during temperature ramping and is compatible with any power supply using a 0-10V input signal.

Which DC power supplies are available from stock?

The stock range shown includes SMP 460A, SMP 560A, SMP 436A and SMP 4120B models, with maximum power ratings from 2100 watts to 4800 watts and output voltages from 36 volts to 120 volts.

Are other SMP4000 and SMP5000 Series power supplies available?

Yes. The SMP4000 and SMP5000 Series tables show additional power supplies available on request. If a specific model is required, Thermic Edge asks customers to provide the model number so the sales team can assist with the enquiry.
